Here’s what you need to know about the pharmacy benefit manager (PBM) legislation that was passed in 2024 in Alaska.

Alaska HB 226

This law sets rules for PBMs operating in Alaska. Some of these rules include:

• Registering with the state
• Transparency
• Professionalism
• Conflict of interest disclosures

The law also expands on pharmacy audits and unfair trade practices.

When it goes into effect

The requirements went into effect on January 1, 2025.

New and renewing groups beginning January 1, 2025.

HB 226 is currently in the rulemaking phase by the Alaska Department of Insurance. The result of the rulemaking phase may impact parts of this bill or timing requirements.
