We Must Protect Affordable Health Coverage

October 24, 2025

Millions of Americans could lose access to affordable healthcare, and those who keep it could face staggering premium increases if Congress doesn’t act soon. Time is running out.

In a recent op-ed for The Spokesman-Review, Premera President and CEO Jeff Roe made a compelling case for immediate action: Congress must extend the enhanced Affordable Care Act (ACA) premium tax credits. These credits are more than just a policy tool, they’re a lifeline for working families. Without them, the stability of our healthcare system is at risk.

In Washington state alone, more than 80,000 people could lose their coverage, and premiums could rise up to 65% if enhanced subsidies expire.

We know our employers in Washington state and Alaska understand the importance of a healthy workforce and the significant role affordable healthcare plays in boosting employee well-being and productivity. This isn’t a partisan issue—it’s about protecting access to care, keeping families covered, and ensuring healthcare remains affordable for everyone.

This is why we’re urging Congress to act now. The health and financial security of millions of Americans and the stability of our healthcare system depend on it.
